‘First Human’ Reportedly Discovered By Archaeologists in Ethiopia

‘First Human’ Discovered in Ethiopia

Archaelogists in Ethiopia have unearthed the jawbone of what they believe to be the first human to have ever walked the Earth.

The fossil was discovered by Professor Brian Villmoare of the University of Nevada and his team while on a dig in a region long believed to be the birthplace of mankind.

By their estimates, the specimen is 2.8 million years old, which pushes back the genesis of humanity some 400,000 years.

Villomoare told the BBC that he believes the discovery establishes a compelling link between early human fossils and the famed 3.2 million-year-old “Lucy” fossil discovered nearby in 1974.

Archaeologists and evolutionary scientists have struggled to peg the link between humans and the apelike predecessors that they argue we’re descended from on account of a pretty large gap in the fossil record.
What has always been needed are more clear-cut examples of a transition from the extinct humanlike great apes like Lucy and early fossils of what scientists can agree are humans.
It may be some time before scientists can confirm or deny Villmoare’s claims, but the distinctions apparent in the jawbone suggest it is at least possible that he’s honed in on the era in which an ape could’ve transitioned into a man.
